‘Daydreams’ is Shelley’s 11th Solo exhibition. Shelley has created this series of paintings predominantly from her own imagination – her main stimuli were the happenings in her mind. Shelley wanted to capture the feeling of those little moments in time when we can escape to another world and get lost in our thoughts. The work Shelley has put together for ‘Daydreams’ is imbued with a magic and whimsical quality that is brought to life by her command of colour and texture.
Shelley Burnham grew up in Melbourne where she studied advertising at RMIT and moved to Sydney in the late 70’s where she began to pursue her passion for art. She painted watercolours under the guidance of Pam Sackville for over a decade before making the switch to acrylics and oils with Juliet Holmes à Court, and mixed media with Pamela Cowper. Her unique and captivating style has seen her paintings collected throughout Australia and overseas.
Shelley’s paintings are executed with a deep sensitivity for her subject and an obsessive passion for her craft. Her great love and appreciation for the Australian landscape are demonstrated in her work with great depths of colour and movement. Her quirky sense of humour and acute observations of life are also a central theme in her paintings that reflect a sense of childlike honesty and purity.
